Political Director | Abel Prado
Abel Prado was born and raised in Donna, Texas and is a proud graduate of Donna High. He attended the University of North Texas, where he studied Journalism and Analytics. After college, Abel returned back to the Rio Grande Valley where he began writing for The Monitor, a local paper. Witnessing the rapid economic growth of Hidalgo County, Abel noticed that in his community “the poor still remained poor while the rich got richer.” Traveling from colonia to colonia, and city to city, Abel saw the same pattern of income inequality everywhere he went.
In 2016, Abel decided to take a stand for working families and ran with a progressive platform for Tax Assessor Collector of Hidalgo County. Despite losing, Abel was able garner the support of young millennials and strong RGV Latinas and began building one of the first progressive infrastructures South of the Nueces River.
A proud father of a beautiful son, Abel decided to join Texas Victory Project in February in 2017 to ensure a better future for his family and all those loyal volunteers, voters, and South Texas residents who work tirelessly everyday to provide for their families. Abel is committed to fight for higher wages for working people and ensure that the people of South Texas and working families get the respect they deserve.
